A Reset in Nature | Personal Growth and Reflection in Montana’s Mountains | Brian Powers
After my daughter left for college, I was coming off a health scare, and a close family member was fighting for his life. He’s thriving now, thankfully. At the time, I felt a lot of self inflicted pressure to live life to the fullest. Business, health, everything. I wanted to hit the ground running, do all the things, and inspire the people around me. But instead, I felt lost. I was overwhelmed with grief and unsure of who I was or where to put my energy in the next chapter.
Sometimes we need to reset to break the spin cycle in our minds. I had made plans for a sunrise hike in Glacier with friends, but they just missed the 6am cutoff into the park. It turned out to be a blessing for me. I spent the day alone in the mountains, fully present with the beauty and the light.
While sitting along the shoreline, I decided I’d try and take some updated photos of myself for my website. A little step toward reshaping my identity. Nothing like nature to connect with your inner creative. I was having fun, and carried that into the next morning at Two Medicine.
If you’re heading into the empty nest phase, I want you to know it will be okay. You still have something meaningful to offer the world. Let yourself grieve, but do not wait to live the beautiful life that is still in front of you!
